OpenSim grids are filling up with haunted hunts, costume parties, and Halloween freebie markets this October.
Here’s where to go and what to do in-world before the candles burn out on October 31. All times are grid time — Pacific — unless noted.
AutumnFest returns to Alternate Metaverse for six days
Alternate Metaverse is holding its annual AutumnFest from Tuesday, October 27, through Sunday, November 1, across nine regions, AMV events manager Debbie Phoenix told Hypergrid Business.

The main landing region is home to the Crescent Moon AI Halloween and autumn art gallery, a cabin by the lake, Halloween castles, the Bare Lilies spooky graveyard stage, and a music venue called Beneath the Graveyard, Phoenix said. Teleporters there lead to the other AutumnFest regions.
The six-day schedule has live singers, DJs, karaoke, open mic, belly dancing, storytelling, chakra awareness and guided meditation classes, bingo and greedy socials, a Freak Night party, and free outfits for all, Phoenix said. “Costumes are welcome and even encouraged at any of the events.”
The Halloween highlights are on the last two days. On Saturday, October 31, there’s a Halloween party at Skull Castle on the AMV AutumnFest Halloween region, and DJ Tom Southmoor plays Halloween Town Hall from 4 to 6 p.m. On Sunday, November 1, DJ Dragon Lady hosts a Halloween party at Halloween Town Hall from 8 to 10 a.m., followed by trick or treat at Sleepy Hollow from 10 a.m. to noon and a Halloween greedy social at noon.

Each day starts with a morning breakfast show at 6 a.m. on the grid’s welcome region, with live performers and DJs through the early afternoon on the Pumpkin Stage in Halloween Town and on the AMV AutumnFest Stage, according to the schedule. Live acts include Clan Escotia and his band, Zoree Jupiter, Casaenia Baxton, Mavenn Live, Joao Frazao, Khiron Ametza, and Mr M and the All Nighters.
Other stops include the Surreal AutumnFest region, with live DJs, Freak Night and power trance shows, and “a whole bunch of Aliens,” Phoenix said; October Park on the AMV AutumnFest October region, with Clan’s Haunted Dollhouse and the storytelling and meditation sessions; a tribute show on the AutumnFest InTribute region; and a “Spooktacular” open mic night on the Open Mic Arts region hosted by Dave King, Winter King, and Whisper Carfield. There’s no fall fashion show this year, but the Meow Fashion region has previous years’ fall fashions free for the taking.

Staff photographer Zelle Mist will be taking autumn and Halloween portraits throughout the events, and there’s a cosplay store at the AMV Freebies Mall for anyone who needs a costume, Phoenix said. The full schedule is on the grid’s events calendar, and events are subject to changes, additions, and cancellations.
The build team was Cataplexia Numbers, Chris McCracken, Clifford Hanger, Lilie Finesmith, and Webby Merlin, Phoenix said.
Halloween freebie markets
On Alternate Metaverse, DragonLady Shinobiaa opened her Halloween Market 2026 on October 15 at Carpe Noctem 2, with “a lot of deco a lot in full perm some textures and more,” she said in a post on OpenSimWorld.

On Pangea Grid, Mike Fleetwood’s Halloween Market at the Green Market on Fleetwood Beach is open through October 31, Fleetwood said in a post on OpenSimWorld. “Halloween season has begun on Fleetwood — and my Halloween Market is now open for you until October 31st.”

Holoneon has an adult-rated Halloween mall called Hella Spooky, which Fiona Sweet, who is known in-world as Aeris Irides, announced on OpenSimWorld in late September: “come have fun with us and kick off Halloween month.”

The Chubelz grid also opened a small Halloween shopping region at the start of the month, according to its OpenSimWorld listing.

Candle hunt on Three Hills Grid
The Wednesday at Midnight region on Three Hills Grid reopened on October 7 with a hunt that runs through the end of the month, grid owner Marianna Monentes said in a post on OpenSimWorld.

“Follow the candlelight. Find the candles. Collect the gifts,” Monentes said. Each hidden candle holds Halloween decor, “spooky treasures,” or a Halloween avatar.
The build mixes the Addams Family, Beetlejuice, and the Sanderson Sisters, with new traps by Outworldz developer Fred Beckhusen, who is known in-world as Ferd Frederix, she added in a later post. “Enter if you dare… but beware!”
Halloween Shack Sundays on Equinox Grid
Equinox Grid is running its Halloween Shack parties on Sundays from 4 to 6 p.m. on its EQG Special Events region, with the last one this Sunday, October 25, according to the grid’s event calendar.

“Beginning today, Halloween Shack returns,” organizer Xaria Aubrey said in a post on OpenSimWorld on October 11.
The region is adult-rated and group-access only, so visitors arriving outside event hours need a visitor tag from the EQG Cornfield region first.
Haunted Halloween Isles are back on Friends Grid
Friends Grid has reopened its Haunted Halloween Isles, an adult-rated region with a zombie hunt, a haunted forest, a ghost town, witchy woods, a cemetery, and a family-friendly pumpkin patch, co-creator Safine Mahoe said in a post on OpenSimWorld.

“Come visit, but realize you may not leave alive,” said Mahoe.
New this year is a Day of the Dead area built with materials from Kimm Starr and Cooper Swizzle, Mahoe said. The region was built by Mahoe and Zuzu Bahro.
Trick or treat all month at the October region on Virtual Worlds Zone
Virtual Worlds Zone opened a region called October at the start of the month, where visitors walk a suburban neighborhood, knock on doors, and click on candy bowls for gifts, according to the region’s OpenSimWorld listing.

The region is owned by Nine, who is known in-world as ParadigmSeasonal, and opened on October 3 with a four-DJ party, according to the listing.
A second party, billed as Trick or Treat: Halloween Night, will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with DJ Light Ray, DJ ChiChi, DJ Minxy, and Adrian Moon, according to a post on OpenSimWorld. “If the lights go out, RUN.”
Zombies and Day of the Dead at OSFest 2026
OSFest 2026, which runs October 12 through 26, opened a Space Alien Zombie Quest on its first day, Kimm Starr said in a post on OpenSimWorld. The festival put its theme to a community vote this past spring.

The festival is also running a tour called Día de los Muertos: A Journey Beyond, hosted by Starr and Cooper Swizzle on The Zones grid, which started on October 16, according to the event listing on OpenSimWorld. “The journey begins October 16th,” the listing said.

Visitors are asked to remove HUDs, animation overriders, and scripted attachments before arriving, according to the listing.
Learn to build a Halloween gazebo with AI tools
Starr and Swizzle are also teaching a 90-minute Halloween Gazebo Building Class on Tuesday, October 27, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on The Zones’ Learning Zone region, Xenon Darrow said in a post on OpenSimWorld for the Virtual Worlds Education Consortium. The class was moved from an earlier October date.

The hands-on session uses AI-assisted 3D building tools and comes with a free mesh kit of “pumpkins, lanterns, skeletons, and more,” Darrow said. Participants have to install the required programs ahead of time by following the instructions in the #learning-zone channel of The Zones Discord. “We will not have time during the session to download or install programs.”
The class is co-presented by the consortium, The Zones, and WolfTEC, according to the post.
A Halloween Ball at Castle Dracula on Wolf Territories
Wolf Territories Grid kicked off its Halloween season with a Halloween Party Bash on October 16 at its Radio DJ Club, with DJ Eagle, according to the grid’s event calendar. “Please have your Costume on,” DJ Eagle, who is known in-world as Eagle Fang, said in a post on OpenSimWorld.

Next up, on Tuesday, October 27, Garrett Glendale is throwing a Halloween Ball in the Castle Dracula ballroom on the Glendale Islands, according to the calendar. “The Count Himself will take the stage for the Halloween Ball,” Glendale said in the listing. “Costumes and Masquerade Party Dress is encouraged.”

A haunted maze on Escape 2 Reality
The Escape 2 Reality grid has its Halloween region back up with “almost a dozen new items,” including new props and jump scares, region owner Escaped2Again said in a post on OpenSimWorld on October 13.

“Remember the maze starts at the house and there is only one way to escape the maze can you?” the post said. New gifts were to be added at the end of the maze last weekend, and four of last year’s freebies are still out.
More spooky regions to explore
Darkness Falls, a new region on the VB Creations grid, went up on October 15 with a pumpkin patch, a 21-and-over graveyard nightclub, a haunted carnival, and a foggy 19th-century haunted town, according to its OpenSimWorld listing by DevonSoul. “Where Autumn Magic Meets Nightmarish Thrills.”

Neverworld Grid has a misty walk-through region called Hocus Pocus by Govega Sachertorte, which warns visitors to “beware of the church graveyard,” according to its OpenSimWorld listing.

Holoneon also picked up Nevermore, Yinni Benelli’s dark-realm region formerly on OSgrid, which reopened on October 16. “Come for the darkness. Stay for the mystery. Nevermore awaits,” Benelli said in a post on OpenSimWorld.

And on The 3 Originals, a Brazilian grid, Klaus Mickaelson reopened Noite Eterna, an adult-rated gothic castle and cemetery, on October 16 after a renovation, according to its OpenSimWorld listing. “The shadows have awakened once again.”

Ghost stories from Storylink Radio, on any grid
Storylink Radio is simulcasting its Thursday night ghost story sessions at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. to its Storylink Radio estate in Kitely from Seanchai’s Bradbury Project build in Second Life, according to the Seanchai Library blog. The remaining sessions are tonight, October 22, and next Thursday, October 29.
